Discover the features of this groundbreaking platform in the Final Scientific Report

EFSA has recently released a Final Scientific Report on Bees and Pollinators about the EU Pollinator Hub; a step towards a more coordinated and effective strategy for pollinator conservation across the EU.
The Pollinator Hub is a groundbreaking and collaborative platform supported by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). It is a success story that started at the Pollinator Week of 2017, where it was concluded that Europe needs to share information and data from different stakeholders to understand the field pollinator situation and implement efficient policies for their preservation.
The Hub allows improving knowledge and targeted action to protect pollinators, harmonising data across the EU. Guided and supported by the EU Bee Partnership, a team led by  BeeLife started its development, collecting, sharing, and analysing scientific information, engaging stakeholders committed to protecting pollinators in the EU.

By fostering a systems-based approach, the Hub integrates diverse datasets, including socio-economic, landscape, or epidemiological data, creating a central repository for standardised, high-quality, and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data. The Final Report shows the future roadmap, highlighting the importance of continued investment in data sharing and pollinator health.

Pollinators are vital for biodiversity, agriculture, and the health of our ecosystems.” – said Noa Simon, Scientific Director and Project Manager at BeeLife – “The EU Pollinator Hub empowers researchers, policymakers, and practitioners with the tools they need to drive informed decisions and protect these essential species and the well-being of Europeans as direct consequence .

BeeLife invites everyone in the pollinator community to explore the Hub, contribute data, and join efforts to safeguard pollinators for future generations thanks to the following key features:

  • Presentation page: know more about the Hub and explore some visualisations of data shared with the Hub.
  • Standardisation and Vocabulary Tools: Facilitating the creation of universally recognised terminology for pollinator-related data.
  • Data Discovery and Visualisation: Enhancing transparency and accessibility for users, from field practitioners to policymakers.
  • Community Engagement: Building a robust network of contributors and collaborators across disciplines and regions.

Since its inception, the Hub has grown through collaboration with diverse stakeholders, from beekeepers and researchers to policymakers and environmental NGOs and after five years of development, the EU Pollinator Hub has become operational as a data-sharing, standardisation, processing and visualisation platform, moving further towards implementing a systems-based approach to insect pollinators.
